Go Wild at the National Waterways Museum

An exciting weekend of wildlife workshops and activities is taking place at the National Waterways Museum Stoke Bruerne on Saturday 2 August and Sunday 3 August 2008.

Visitors can take part in lots of Wild Over Waterways activities and learn about the waterways and their wildlife. WOW themed quizzes and colouring activities and a range of fun ‘make & take’ crafts are all included free of charge within usual museum admission charges.

Whatever the weather the WOW indoor and outdoor trails will lead visitors around the exhibits and beside the Grand Union Canal, pointing out interesting sights and facts along the way.  Ideal for families, children especially love to follow the trails – a great way to learn all about the wildlife and heritage of our inland waterways.

The National Waterways Museum is located in a restored corn mill in the beautiful village of Stoke Bruerne. The museum vividly tells the story of our inland waterways and the people who worked on them. The fascinating insight into the transport system which was fundamental to the industrial revolution in Britain is complemented by the ‘living canal’ with its flight of locks, boats and historic Blisworth Tunnel.

The museum is one of the three leading waterway museums managed by The Waterways Trust. Together they hold the National Waterways Collection which is designated by government as being of national importance.

The Museum is open daily from 10am – 5pm and has a packed events programme throughout the year. For more information about the museum, activities and events visit http://www.nwm.org.uk/ call 01604 862229 or email stokebruerne@thewaterwaystrust.org.uk
