On Sunday 10th August the new-look National Waterways Museum Gloucester Docks will play host to some unusual visitors as a group of heavy horses visit the site.

Horses used to pull canal boats along the waterway until the invention of steam engines. This is a fabulous opportunity for people to see these wonderful creatures up close.
Visitors will also be able to watch traditional waterway crafts such as lace making and rag rugging demonstrated by the Friends of the National Waterways Museum who will also be firing up the canal dredger on the quayside and inviting visitors to climb on board the museum’s two historic tug boats.
The National Waterways Museum Gloucester Docks re-opened earlier this year with a brand new Water Lives exhibition specially designed for a family audience.  The new-look museum tells the story of our waterways through the eyes of those who have lived, worked and moved along the canals during the past 300 years.

The museum also has a gift shop and the new Coots Café/Bar, offering a wide range of freshly prepared sandwiches, snacks, ice creams, hot food and drinks throughout the day.
