Easter Boat Gathering

Easter

Easter Boat Gathering and Sea Shanty Festival

The wonderful meeting of narrowboats from all across the UK returns to the National Waterways Museum for Easter 2012. Boats will be arriving from Friday April 6 and the festival will showcase a fleet of historic narrowboats.

During the first three days of the Gathering shanty singers from across Europe will be performing their atmospheric songs among the museum historic dock buildings and renowned boat collection. Friday and Saturday evening sees a pair of formal shanty concerts with tickets available from Shanty UK at http://www.shanty.org.uk/

There is plenty for all family with children's craft and music workshop plus costumed characters bringing Porters Row to life. Shanty singers will be showing youngsters how to perform traditional songs and taking part in performances highlight some of the more gruesome and piratical aspects of life at sea. Add in old fashioned games around the museum and there is plenty for all the family.

Other events across the festival include demonstrations of traditional crafts, lectures, book stalls, lock demonstrations, battle of the tugs, boaters games and a tour of the museum’s Heritage Boatyard.

Add in the cafe, bbq and a mini real ale festival and the Easter Boat Gathering is Cheshire's most colourful Easter event.
