Canals and The Growth of the Town Ella Popper, our Societys secretary, is another West Cheshire College lecturer. She is going to talk us the importance the canals had in the development of the town, having recently written a dissertation on the subject for her MA. With some fascinating illustrations, learn how Ellesmere Port came into being servicing the industries of the Midlands and the North West. What materials and goods came through the port? In this day and age, with all our complex technology, do the canals still have a role to play?
