Helping bring our museum to life...

Museums offer fascinating, enjoyable and rewarding volunteering opportunities.  At Ellesmere Port volunteers; 

• become part of an enthusiastic community of people
  
• spend time in a unique and historic, waterside setting
• learn about fascinating histories and stories
• work in a sociable and friendly environment
• use their skills and knowledge in new and rewarding ways
• hone or learn new skills.

Volunteers also receive free soup or a sandwich in the museum's waterside café when they work a half day or a day.

We need volunteers to help out in many different ways; 

• looking after the Historic Boat Collection  and engines (click for details)
  

• helping catalogue, care for and interpret the collections (click for details)

• steering boats around the basin and locks (click for details)
  
  
• working in Porters' Row to help bring the cottages to life (click for details)
  
  
• helping with housekeeping and decorating at the Museum (click for details)
  
  
• supporting school visits to the Museum (click for details)
  
  
• taking guided tours round the museum (click for details)
  
  
• researching enquiries in the archive (click for details)
  
  
• helping in the shop or café (click for details)
  
  
• gardening in the vegetable plot and around the site (click for details)
  

Many volunteers also get involved in helping out with a variety of events at the Museum.

The Boat Museum Society works closely with museum management to organise and develop Museum volunteering. In particular the BMS provides training and support, and new volunteers also receive free membership of the Society.
